Best Wii games of 2008

The Wii continues to be the little game machine that could, busting out mind-boggling sales numbers despite being the most underpowered machine this side of the next generation. Time and time again, the Wii has proven that bigger is not necessarily better.

This year saw fewer great games for the console, but there were still plenty of engaging and fun titles for players of all stripes.

Which were your favorites?

With 17yo and 10yo boys in my home, anything Rayman is great.  For my wife, Wii Fit, We Ski and Shaun White:Road Trip are the best.  I personally enjoy them all.  Our method:  Rent before you buy, because we saw a couple of duds out there...

I agree that the Rayman's Raving Rabbids game is awesome family fun. The Wii fit and Mario Kart top my list as well.

I enjoy playing mario party 8! the different boards with the whole puzzle yet adventure characteristics is well worth the play! I also put the godfather on my list as well. Of course wii fit is on there cause i've lost 20lbs on that bad boy! BigBrain Academy is cool too!

I'm sorry but the Super Monkey Ball game is not as good as previous versions. It just has more "stuff" crammed in there. More doesn't make it better.

                    IMHO

Wii Music - so far one of my fav's... will never get old with all the stuff you can do.  The kids are learning a lot about music & instruments too (now they're picking out the instruments in every song on the radio and listening for the beat - that's cool)

Mario Kart Wii - never gets old & the online play is awesome

Call of Duty: World At War - insanely fun online play, the best control scheme for the game on any system, not for kids though (with Keifer's voice-over dropping the "F" bomb for example)

Super Smash Bros. Brawl - the kids love it and there's a ton of content in the game

Defend Your Castle (Wii Ware) - hilarious... awesome game for $5

Super Mario galaxy is one of the best video games I have ever played, and given that I was born in 1973, I've played quite a few.  It's so good I'm surprised it didn't make the list!  Oh well.

That's my fav game of ALL TIME!   ... but the list is for the "best of 2008" only.

Anyone getting a Wii should get Super Mario Galaxy.

Ahhhh, that makes sense.  In my defense, I just started playing it this year, but I know it has been out for awhile.  Opps...sorry :)

I thought Mario Galaxy was awful! It didn't even keep my 4 yr old's attention (and he had just turned 4) - I tried it thinking he was doing something wrong.

Nope! Just a boring game - returned it and got a great game for kids Mario Cart Wii - my husband, son, and I love to play and he can play with friends online though the initial set-up is tricky for online play.

My top pick for families (especially those with younger kids) is Outdoor Adventure. There are a bunch of games and the mat for a lot less than the Wii fit. The mat is similar to the one for Dance revolution) and has games like whack-a-mole, trampoline, running games, jump rope, kayaking and a lot more. It's kind of like Wii Fit for kids - my 4 yr old was a bit rough on the Wii Fit board so I got him Outdoor Adventure as they can jump and run without damaging it.

My personal favorite is Wii Tennis I've lost a lot of weight playing it!

The Outdoor Adventure is awesome. We all rent a cabin once a year and have our family reunion there and my mother bought that game to take. My 3 year old LOVED it. And the adults had fun too. Although the mat is too small for adults to play the 2 player games, we all had a blast with it.

We also have family weekly Tiger Woods tournaments and none of us have ever golfed for real lol. Love that game

I like the Guiness book of World Records game, it is fun and some of the games are easy for my young son to play.  You actually get to try to beat the world records and it has been my favorite by far of all the games we have rented.  I will definitely look into buying this game in the future.

unfortunately, I have to disagree with basically all of you...Wii-music is not a good game...it gets boring very quickly...

My top list would have to be (in no particular order) SUPER MARIO GALAXY, SUPER MARIO KART, NO MORE HEROES, and SUPER SMASH BROTHERS BRAWL

Nintendo is having a tough time making games that don't include mario that are amazing...Wii-fit is good though...actually very good indeed...MARIO STRIKERS CHARGED is a good game...

I do agree with the above comment about MARIO and SONIC go to the OLYMPIC GAMES...it has a lot of fun games to play...

"Boom Blox" was the most fun I've had yet on the Wii!  And I've had one for 3 years now.

I also loved "Wii Music" as I have found out I am a killer handbell ringer...

"House of Dead 2 & 3" is good killin' fun...

"WiiFit" seems to be a hit with all my parties but I'm still lazy...

And I'm hoping for deBlob for Christmas!

MARIO KART by far is the best wii game of the year.  It is fun for all ages, young and old, and the online play is awesome!!!

I was suprised to not see the LEGO Batman on anyone's list.  It's fun for all ages & it's one of the few games were you have a story line for the heros and one for the villians.  My 5 year old son loves to be Mr. Freeze & laughs hyterically when he freezes my characters into an ice cube.  Well worth the price for this one!

Loved Lego Batman but not as much as Lego Indiana Jones or Star Wars (yes, I know they aren't 2008 releases BUT worth mentioning).
